2017 Theme:

Transborder Security and Sustainable Development

We are happy to present to you this years theme of Stockholm Model United Nations 2017. Our committees are varied and suit everyone from beginners to veterans. We have strived to come up with topics which are not often discussed and are important to international relations and human rights. We have classed the committees into three difficulty levels, so that delegates can easily find the best balance between topics and expected preparation levels. Stay tuned for more information about the committees for Stockholm Model United Nations 2017.

The Suez Crisis of late 1956 or the Tripartite Aggression as known in the Arab world was an effort by Israel, then France and the UK to regain control of the recently nationalized Suez Canal and the removal of the Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

On 29th October 1956, Israel invaded the Egyptian Sinai followed by a joint ultimatum to cease fire by Britain and France which was ignored leading the latter two to get involved in the conflict. Although gains were made in that the Egyptian forces were defeated, the Suez Canal was blocked to all shipping.

This year’s historical committee will be a simulation of the United Nations Security Council in 1956. The representatives of the UNSC will have to carefully balance their national interests with the overarching goal of de-escalating the conflict.
