Topic 1: Critical Situation in Venezuela


Ongoing power struggles between the government and the opposition have been accompanied by economic decay and suffering of the population in Venezuela. More than 3 million people have fled the country since 2014 and about 80% of Venezuelan households are food insecure, according to a study from the human rights watch. Especially recent intensification of the conflict has raised awareness worldwide and shown that international cooperation is necessary in order to peacefully solve political disputes and protect the people’s well-being.


How should the council act help aid the people of Venezuela?



Topic 2: Crimea crisis after Russia's annexation in 2014

Five years after the annexation of Crimea by Russia, inhabitants still oppose the takeover and the Ukrainian government, as well as most international countries, deem it illegal today. Nevertheless, the peninsula is controlled by Russian forces and the Russian laws and culture are persistently integrated into the everyday life of the inhabitants.


For example, the language of instruction in schools and official institutions progressively changes to Russian and citizens without a Russian passport are being discriminated. Considering that both the international community and Ukrainian citizens themselves do not accept the current situation as legitimate it is evident that much work needs to be done to resolve the conflict for good. Therefore, what actions if any should the council take?
