News from the Host Team

May has been a very productive and eventful month for the SMUN Host Team.

EuroMUN in Maastricht

In the first week of May, 8 of the 13 members of the Host Team attended EuroMUN in Maastricht as delegates. Also accompanying us was Soma Askari Moris, a senior adviser and member of the 2009 Host Team, and Malin Falkmér, an even more senior adviser who was recruited as a Chairperson by the EuroMUN secretariat, and served as chair of the IAEA at the conference. Malin was the Head of Scenario and Secretary-General at SMUN 2006, chaired the ECOSOC at SMUN 2007, and made a praised comeback at last year’s conference as Chairperson of the 2009 ECOSOC.

SMUN was represented with delegates in the Security Council, the second Security Council – crisis committee, DISEC, SOCHUM, IAEA and WTO. One SMUN member who particularly stood out was Najma Ismail, Scenario Manager in the Host Team, who received an honourable mention at the closing ceremony for her performance representing India in DISEC.

Returning from Maastricht, the Host Team was full of new thoughts and ideas for their own conference, and is considering some interesting additions to this year’s SMUN.

The scenario for SMUN 2010

Very recently, a decision has been made regarding the scenario for SMUN 2010. Some would say that this is the most important decision of the year, and we are convinced that we have chosen a very exciting and innovative theme for this year.
